Bright Electroless Tin
Tin Plating for Copper
Protocase is pleased to offer in-house Tin Plating for Copper. Tin plate is applied to copper to improve corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and solderability. We typically plate copper bus bars that we manufacture for our clients. However, we also plate client-supplied parts.
What is it?
The Tin Plating process is a simple immersion technique that deposits pure tin onto copper.
Bright Electroless Tin is a well-developed formulation based upon the reduction characteristics of chelated tin in the divalent state. Under proper conditions reduction to pure tin occurs readily. A grain-refining agent, free of phosphorus, is present as well as an activator and buffers for pH control.
The deposited tin has many favorable properties:
- fine-grain tin structure
- Good chemical resistance
- Excellent adhesion
- Highly resistant to corrosion, even under exposure to humidity and salt-spray
- Highly solderable
Protocase’s Tin Plating process is ROHS and REACH compliant.
What do we plate?
Protocase will process
a) sheet metal parts that have been fabricated in our own facility (typically bus bars);
or b) parts that have been fabricated or machined elsewhere.
Since the tin plating is completed in-house, Protocase-fabricated parts can be processed with no extra lead time. This means we can offer components with tin plating in as little as 2-3 days. Customer-supplied parts can be tin plated in as little as 2-3 days after receipt of parts.
For large quantities, please contact your Protocase account manager to discuss your order.
Flat parts: 18" L x 20" H
Bent parts: 18" L x 11" W x 16" H high
Parts exceeding these constraints may need to be processed in 2 setups (pending customer approval). Please contact your account manager to discuss.
