Countersinking
Countersinking uses a drill press machine to create a conical hole in part or enclosure that matches the angle and head size of a particular flathead screw.
Countersinking is ideal for ensuring your flathead screws sit flush against the metal of your custom enclosure or part.

Advantages of Countersinking
Having your flathead screws sit flush against the metal of your part or enclosure can be advantageous for several reasons:
Avoiding interference: This is particularly important for full-height rackmount enclosures. By ensuring proper clearance between the enclosures, you will avoid having the enclosures rub up against the enclosure racked above or below.
Achieving a streamlined look: Many designers prefer countersunk screws for the aesthetics of having a flush surface.

Protocase offers standard countersink angles of 82 degrees, 90 degrees and 100 degrees.

Limitations
Countersinking is available on all of our sheet metal.
The material of the part being countersunk must be thick enough to accommodate the head depth of the screw being used. If the material isn't thick enough, your screw will bottom out before it can sit flush with the surface.
In order to ensure that your flathead screw sits flush, the material thickness of your panel must be at least the same height as the depth of your screw head.

Tolerance
We are able to hold a tolerance of ±0.030” on the outer diameter of a countersink.
